Wybren Terpstra started 12 years ago, chancing a shipbuilding based company into the direction of architecture and art. With a bachelor’s degree background in the façade building industry he is advising architects, engineers, artists and contractors about financial, technical and building possibilities with one single end goal in mind; helping them achieving their dreams.
Dr. Thomas Kühmstedt has a background in naval architecture. He worked in the past at a number of shipyards in Germany and the US in different positions. The main focus was always aimed at exploring new approaches to optimize ship design and to bring this to reality. Since six years he is with CIG in an executive position. He is in charge of new business development; in particular, he is developing new projects and applications around the core competence of CIG: 3D forming of metal. The combination of visionary ideas and a strong technological background are the basis to realize projects others would think impossible.
The bending and forming of metal is the craft of CIG – a craft that can be elevated to a form of art. It gives CIG the possibility to achieve an unprecedented level of complexity for 3-dimensional metal forms. Samples can be seen in both buildings and art pieces all over the globe. Transferring the knowledge gained from over 40 years of experience in the shipbuilding industry, CIG has opened up a new world for architects and artists within the use of parametric design tools.
