Before starting as Director of Innovation NOWlab@BigRep in 2016 and establishing NOWlab in 2014, Jörg was Assistant Professor and Ph.D. fellow at the ITE – Institute for Structural Design at the TU Braunschweig. His research focused on robotic and additive fabrication methods in construction, design and architecture. In an academic context he has published, taught and lectured at: IASS Amsterdam & Tokyo, Academie van Bouwkunst Amsterdam, University of Kentucky College of Design, TU Cottbus, TU Coburg, TU Braunschweig, TU Kassel and Beuth Hochschule Berlin.
From 2006 – 2013 Jörg was associate architect and project leader for 6 years at UNStudio, van Berkel & Bos in Amsterdam. During this time he was responsible for the design and construction of several international award winning projects such as: Ardmore Residence the Mirai House and the National Art Museum of China just to mention a few. Simultaneously he was leading the Knowledge Platform Architectural Sustainability ASP. Parallel to his work at UNStudio he founded Raurouw – an international collaborative design and research platform which enabled him to invent and fabricate within an expanded framework of theory and practice.
Jörg received his Diplom Ingenieur Architekt at the Beuth Hochschule Berlin. After gaining first professional experience working for Richard Meier & Partners New York, HPP Berlin, Kohlbecker Architects and Renzo Piano BW Berlin he completed his Postgraduate MA in Advanced Architectural Design at the Städelschule, Academy of Fine Arts Frankfurt am Main.
High performance, functionally integrated, multifunctional and resource-friendly – in the field of large-scale 3D printing it is less about the hardware and software but more about the materials used and the resulting applications that have the greatest development potential. Jörg Petri and Daniel Büning are now responsible for innovation in materials and applied research to develop cross-sector customized applications and solutions at the Berlin based tech start-up.
